"Sails in the Sun" signed, dated, and inscribed in pencil "Stoltenberg '76 imp." Numbered "Version III, 3/4." Etching and aquatint on paper, oval image size is 23.75" wide x 16.75" high. Condition is excellent.
This is a unique oval imagine in a wood frame that was finished to coordinate with the image. Created in 1976, this is a really piece by this artist.
Donald Hugo "Don" Stoltenberg (Oct. 15, 1927 – Mar. 26, 2016) was an American painter specializing in marine subjects. His work has been included in major exhibitions of contemporary art throughout the United States, most notably at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and the Corcoran Galley of Art in Washington DC.
Stoltenberg's works are included in the permanent collections of Boston's Museum of Fine Arts, the Boston Public Library, the Addison Gallery of American Art, among others.
