![]() We’ve owned this vintage vanity for quite some time. We've had it in the store for a few months and while everything around it came and went, this vanity was still there. Don’t get me wrong, it received a lot of love. Customers in the shop would look at it and love on it…but there it sat. We sell on an upscale online shopping site and this vanity had an unprecedented number of followers…but there it sat. Paul and I would often discuss painting it but we could never agree on color or finish…so there it sat. Well, two weeks ago we finally agreed that it should be black. The decision was made and we handed it over to Caroline, she works for us on Tuesdays & Wednesdays in the shop and she is a fantastic painter. When she arrived at the store one Tuesday, she found a can of Graphite Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan, Black Chalk Paint® Wax and instructions to paint everything but the drawers and shelf. One of the many things we love about having Caroline in the shop is that we don't have to paint every single thing, sometimes we get to be surprised! So, when Paul and I get to the shop on Thursdays, we’re excited to see what she’s done. When we arrived the Thursday after Caroline painted the vanity, I walked to the back, saw the vanity, and said to Paul “it looks like it’s wearing a tuxedo, I love it!” It was such a pretty piece before but there’s so much drama now. The pretty wood tones are framed by the black and it draws attention to just how pretty the wood grain is. Now that it’s all done, I can’t help but look at it and wonder what took us so long!
